10/17/23 I misplaced my journal and the other stuff in the bag, my expensive coffee container that I lose every few years, pencil case and whatever else.
I forget what day it is of the Israeli-Hamas war. This sophisticated country and they could have locked up Gaza without bloodshed moving it and gone all over to find them and the hostages. Of course this was the government’s chance to rally people around the country to exterminate the Palestinians and have the world not just praise him but let him fix his “problem”. According to him everyone in there is responsible anyway and I’m sure if he doesn’t start a bigger war if it’s in his interests, which might be the only way to save the Palestinians, nobody’s going to put him on trial for all the crimes he committed before for years and what he’s doing now. Not government is pressing him with sanctions or outright condemnation or a million other tactics because they don’t give a shit.
They’ve watched him do this since it started, cut off water, food, electricity. The world knows the people in Gaza are drinking contaminated water. I could go on, but what’s the point. If you want to say history repeats itself and we learn nothing, it’s true. The world looks on and sends people to talk to others, world leaders who think they’re letting the Israelis solve their problem.
Ironically in Afghanistan, they had their third massive earthquake. If they’re is a higher power they picked the wrong place to have an earthquake. If we had 3 earthquakes here, would it dominate the news? Nobody seems to care about Afghanistan. This one was a 6.3. since obsessing with this disastrous war that started in disaster and goes on and will end in disaster if it ends at all. Hadn’t been at war with the Palestinians for 50 years? They didn’t even beef up security or heed warnings from 3-10 days before.
“Save the Children said four people had died in the latest earthquake and that Herat Regional Hospital had received 153 injured. Everything in the Baloch area of Rabat Sangi district has collapsed. Several villages have been destroyed, according to the aid group. Authorities have given lower casualty numbers.”
Life is just numbers. This war is reduced to numbers. How many Israelis killed, how many Palestinians killed, how many “injured” everywhere. Don’t know what injured mean. I just slipped on something and hurt my back. I know someone who cut his finger badly. You could probably look in the news and see who’s been injured here. But it has nothing to do with injuries caused by rockets and bombs. They tell you who the camera guy was who got killed just trying to report the news.
His photos and other photos and videos at the sites are the only 95% truthful stories. He was definitely there. They didn’t release names of relief workers killed, just the bombing of an ambulance.
I found a son of a former Israeli general married to a Palestinian who actually had humanity, speaking out.
On Thursday I can participate in a Zoom meeting.
Here’s an online zoom you can join. It’s going to be Thursdays from 8-10pm. It will be frank and important discussions about Palestine and imperialism.
I don’t think it will do anything concrete but it’s good to participate in something that brings a small minority of people together to discuss what’s going on with no repercussions.
Life is not a cherry pie is a moment in the movie Unbearable Lightness of Being, when the 2 main characters are getting married; it’s part of the speech the guy performing the wedding. You can’t find the scene or quote anywhere on the internet, but it’s appropriate now.
